Before proceeding, a brief introduction of the topic feels to be placed prior further discussion regarding them. Last year was difficult for everyone, but lockdowns unveiled many artist’s creativity and helped rising acts make a name in the scene. At the time of writing this, few countries have restarted festivals (for majority, online alternative is only mode to enjoy one) and we can notice the popularity surge in some genres. Let’s have a look at what 2021 is preparing in terms of electronic music!
Let’s start with physical live-gigs. Thanks to strict restrictions in places such as Australia and Taiwan, festivals are happening there in full capacities without hindrance. With the upcoming Ultra Miami being cancelled for a second time, live performances would occur sporadically in the rest of the globe and mostly in the mentioned regions. Let’s hope for the best!
As we discussed before: Slap House is dominating the scene now. The genre, even if repetitive, has soared in streaming as popular apps like Tik Tok continue providing more exposure. LANNÉ, VINAI (bruh) or Dynoro are few of the main proponents of this style. Along with this, a surge towards Techno, DnB and other underground genres are occurring with promising new trends such as Future Rave. Probably 2021 is going to present more pleasant surprises!
And now the part everyone’s anxious for: the albums. Plenty of artists seem to be busy in preparing their best works for their newest compilation offering. Talking about the mainstream scene, Martin Garrix (as his alias AREA21), Tiesto, KSHMR (he already released the first track from his album) and Marshmello. If you’re more oriented towards Tech sounds, aliases such as Rufus Du Sol, Black Coffee, Mathame or BICEP and other notable acts are also putting together an album.
We can notice Hardstyle is thriving with albums made by Coone (just released along side Project One and Atmozfears). Also, other underrated names to be aware of from the alternative scene are CHVRCHES and Ed Is Dead. Finally, we cannot close this article without mentioning Porter Robinson’s comeback with “Nurture”, and such possibilities can be expected from veterans such as Skrillex or Swedish House Mafia.
