W&W and Groove Coverage – God Is A Girl

90/100

It is a well-known fact that many of the vintage tracks of electronic dance music have been revamped and remoulded with contemporary sounds. Even if some listeners would term it as plagiarism, from a creative perspective, for the artist involved in re-creating the original vibes with different sounds is an interesting challenge. The Dutch music giants W&W have notched up their eminent discography with another energetic yet nostalgic production, “God Is A Girl”.

The rework takes inspiration from the 2002 prominent Euro dance song “God Is A Girl”, from the German dance band Groove Coverage. The original tune is more of an old-school trance, which also gained commercial significance as “Hands Up /Euro house”. Without losing too much time explaining what this vintage and beautiful genre represents, it’s sure that every 90’s kid will think about those sounds with nostalgy and affection.

Keeping most of the original rhythm, W&W let the magical luscious vocal and piano backdrop to the enchantment. To add a modern mark, the breakdown also features a catchy breakbeat, just before the original melody hits with familiar trance saw synths. The riser transition follows thereafter, bringing in the peppy and lively drop. Sweeping in with power, the drop introduces similitude supersaws, with more intensity and a strong punching kick to compliment. Even though it’s slightly minimal, the dynamic attributes of the drop certainly make it imposing.

An official hardstyle version of this drop would be amazing, if that will ever happens!

In few words, W&W did a remarkable job in revitalising this old tune, and if phrased otherwise, “A walk down the memory lane” to many listeners. “God Is A Girl” will be a summer hit, in our opinion, because euro dance is born for making people dancing and having fun. A happy rework, efficient and well done, congratulations!
