It was about time for some experimental Phonk record to be featured on this blog, and who if not Tribal Trap coming up with such fresh ideas? The amount of quality on their releases is overwhelming, and this time I managed to discover “RXSCALS“, a G-House Phonk hybrid deal with interesting trap variations brainstormed by KEAN DYSSO & T33N. The duo share a great sonic chemistry, as their piece has a very peculiar characteristic worth mentioning.
The bassline on this is typically Phonk, with a vocal loop striking resemblance to the genre’s experts. What I like is the development of the lead sound, which hovers over the rest, and the variations of the pace…Sometimes slow and even fast. “RXSCALS” doesn’t hesitate to alter its gait to provide dynamism and show creativity. It drips in reverb, and a central part around 1 minute and 30 seconds are where the highs are tuned down preceding a glitchy-trap switch. I found this quite inventive, as the number of variations took me by total surprise!
It’s evident that a lot desire to push the boundaries and explore unfamiliar territories was the theme here, as I can say after listening plethora of Phonk records. “RXSCALS” is that “car music” banger that doesn’t fall prey to conventions and takes the step to differentiate from others.
