The hardstyle producer Dr Phunk is once again back on Revealed, with another splendid remix. The Dutch artist can be distinguished with a series of remixes of famous songs (especially from Hardwell, with whom he collaborated thrice (but released just 2 so far)), but today it’s KAAZE whose track got remixed!
His splendid progressive tune “End Of The World”, together with the legendary vocalist Jonathan Mendelsohn, has been reworked in a great way! The original is a masterpiece (rated 90+ by us), so the challenge wasn’t easy. Dr Phunk, for us, improved the break but took some “epicness” away from the drop structure. Comparing the two versions is a difficult task, being, in addition, two different genres, but all we can say is that this remix respected KAAZE’s work.
The “End Of The World” break gained an electric (and slightly darker than expected) vibe, thanks to the echoes in the vocal and the distorted background noise, Dr Phunk is a master of that. We also dare to say that he emphasized the already supreme Mendelsohn vocal. More climax, more emotions, it was next to impossible, but the remixer did it.
Then, after a classic hardstyle buildup, an aggressive yet melodic drop begins to play. That’s the part where we were expecting something more from Dr Phunk, and he managed to satisfy us only partially. The melody is the same as the original, with his typical hardstyle lead and a great kick! That hardstyle kick, despite the obvious brutality, keeps an impressive dynamism which fits perfectly with the frenetic melody!
Despite that, we weren’t completely satisfied. We feel it could have been even better, despite it being a great job, it’s just a bit too loyal towards the original version. We would have loved more risk taken by the Dutch artist, maybe a rawstyle anticlimax?
It’s a superlative remix, but for us, the original “End Of The World” is slightly more enjoyable. Needless to say that we highly appreciate Dr Phunk’s work, that’s another splendid production, especially because of the break. Approved!
