That’s what I call a successful duo. If you find in the title “Zack Martino and REGGIO”, be sure that the song will be spectacular. And that’s what “Against The Night” exactly is!
Featuring Jonny Rose, a singer that I personally like very much, this progressive release is kinda special. In fact, being the 10th releases of TNC, a label that I’m following since the beginning, it’s an important milestone!
I am personally sure, and after ten releases I can confirm it, that TNC is the best label out there in terms of quality-over-quantity. There aren’t bad or uninteresting releases, the quality level is abnormal and I’m proud to say that I reviewed all the TNC tracks (apart from “Feel It”, but only because I was too busy). Spectacular!
So, why I consider “Against The Night” interesting?
Because of its elegance. The previous (four) collaborations between the two guys were all “dark progressive”, but this one is one step further in quality and personality. Slightly better than “The Future”, and that collab was wonderful!
This “one step further” is represented by the majestic vocal (shout-out to Jonny!), the crazy and well-defined lead and the melody. In a technical way, the lead is very clean and “less aggressive” than usual, making “Against The Night” more “progressive” than “dark progressive”, but I like it. It’s simply elegant and beautiful, with a complex melodic structure and an energy that only two great talents as REGGIO and Zack Martino are able to share.
The break is lovely, soft but ready to explode. As said, I am really satisfied by the vocal, it’s one of the best ones by Jonny Rose, and I’m glad that the two producers built around it a romantic atmosphere… Even if slightly far from their more aggressive standards, I’m happy to see that they are good in more soft and romantic projects!
In the end, “Against The Night” is beautiful.
Lovely yet strong collaboration, it’s another chapter of a beautiful musical series… I hope to see those guys collaborating once again in the future, their mixed style is one of the most interesting out there!
P.S. Special mention to the splendid lyrics video, well made and professional. That’s why I like very much TNC: always one step further with professionality and cool ideas!
