• TWIIG are back with Deep House
• Great vocal on the break, except in the drop
• Noteworthy details in the final segment
Alternating between quality releases and long hiatuses, TWIIG hasn’t waned down and kept it equally interesting to see what they’re involved in and how their experimental shift in sound is ongoing.
A year back, we witnessed their attempt toward Deep and melodic House, with a potent release in Alok’s Controvertia imprint, and later a remix for VAVO and bootleg of the “Lady” from Modjo. Known for their vicious bassline from their festival music roots, there’s always anticipation that they will imbue the familiar energetic twist in whatever genre they’re going for.
Yet there’s not much to speak about what transpires in “Broken Love.” Clearly, the passion is imminent from their side for willing to invest time on being outside their comfort zone, yet that doesn’t let the outcome’s overall standard remain unaffected and thus, is slightly lower than what TWIIG has already been set-up in the past.
Powered by vocals from Tyler Mann, which is an impassioned performance that does well in the context of the breakdown, however the doesn’t as much on the drop where my focus remained on the bassline. The atmosphere is approximately like Tropical House, with such percussion, keeping in tune with the dashing low-end.
There’s more. I loved the sax solo hidden in the background of this ensemble, as it comes up during the finale. This is certainly a positive influence of creativity imparted by the Croatian pair.
However, despite all merits I have listed here about, there’s a margin of satisfaction yet to be fulfilled after my listening. The drop is lacking the right personality to stand out, and it’s partially rescued by the delightful sax that arrives at the end, making me wonder why TWIIG didn’t develop that element early on. Still a sensible release, hoping to hear it on other playlists and even radioshows!
