If you were perhaps curious on what transpired with Dance music in 2021, look no further. Beatport has drawn the curtains from the list of aliases and various tracks that trended on the website, with slightly unexpected results.
As if an omen to buzzing dance-floors for the coming year, “Marea (We’ve Lost Dancing)” from Fred Again.. and The Blessed Madonna has outperformed as the most sold and streamed song. Meanwhile leading the top-selling artist list, rising Chicago based hotshot John Summit has dethroned Camelphat from previous year, although the latter has still impressively remained on the top ten. Other figures such as ARTBAT, Ben Böhmer, Cloone and Space 92 also share ranks, showing the scene’s ever-growing affinity towards Techno and Tech House.
On the label side of the spectrum, Defected has glued itself on the first place again, while Anjunadeep and Toolroom have interchanged their positions since 2020. Spinnin’ Records retained as a top-seller at the sixth spot, and alongside Ultra & Armada, are the only commercially inclined brands amongst the various underground focused imprints.
