• Proficient songwriting
• Fetching instrumentalism
• Absorbing vocal performance by Kuaigon
Murcia-based act Kuaigon has made his way back to commercial sphere of EDM, after having carved a satisfactory career built out of producing for Spanish singers. His last contribution to dance music came in 2019 as “Heart” EP, this one marking a comeback to the roots he is best known for.
“Dark and cold” is a track that captivates with a lively and heartfelt vocal paired with equally genuine lyrics. Working the intro with a minimalist of a bassline, it stays intriguing till the end. Despite the delicate acquaintance at first, the drop remains plenty harmonic with obvious inspiration from Porter Robinson, yet standing out with a unique and differentiable tone and striving for a softer mood, far away from the melancholic adjectives of its title.
Now, from a more technical standpoint, the drop is scored with ambient elements, an incredible presence of drums and an echo-delay effect in the vocal that keeps resonating in the mind. Again, if Porter Robinson or Madeon is your cup of tea, this is bound to impress you with similar characteristics.
Yet, everything that shines isn’t gold. Half of the track sticks to being introductory, and the other half is the climactic part. I was hoping for an extended playtime, but perhaps longer duration wouldn’t render it any better.
The Spanish alias has contrived of a softer tune greatly leaning to radio-ready format even though maintaining its own personal twist. As I said, if you are into the artists and style I mentioned earlier, this one will suit your palette.
