Jake & Alvar (ft. Nikonos) – Pass Me By (DMNX Remix)

July 2, 20212 min read

• A mix between Bass and Future House
• Calmer and experimental winning take from DMNX
• Honorable mention: BLUK’s aggressive remix

As promised, we have reviewed the victor for the “Pass Me By” charity remix contest. Published via swerve collective, the original from Jake & Alvar (who has delighted us, yet left craving for eventual revisions) got further creative alterations by several talented producers partaking in the contest. In particular, we liked the glitchy approach from BLUK, and the winner DMNX, who has crafted an interesting outcome.

The laid-back vibes in “Pass Me By” (which originally leaned towards a wobbling Future House composition) are still there, slightly modified to fit a darker narrative. It’s daring and experimental, especially when the distortions on the vocal cracks in with a curious loop. Bass and Future House conjugate with a solid set of percussion backing it. Result of this surprising drop is rather satisfying, specifically as we noticed that the bassline has been kept on the following break.

Dynamism does the magic here, undoubtedly.

In comparison with the Bass House stars such as Loopers and Jay Eskar that can be made here, DMNX added his own spin, avoiding any risky predictability. His remix deserved to win for he correctly balanced the originally calmer pace with its experimental approach, resulting in an enjoyable experience. More aggressiveness? Maybe. BLUK demonstrated that the mentioned track can be torn to pieces with a bass-laden sequence and still sound cool. Our inclination towards the former is mainly because it feels “natural”, if that makes sense in this context.

Thanks to all the participants and congratulations to DMNX for his victory!
