Hypnotune – Heart

March 16, 20212 min read

• Straightforward structure, laidback vocal
• Groovy rhythm fits well in the schematics
• Repetition that hinders fuller potential

“Heart” is a release that caught my attention without much effort, hence earning itself as the highlight of this article. A solid composition, it is a production from the Dutch artist Hypnotune and has been released on self-owned imprint Futurized Records. The mentioned work is a delectable encounter filled with a groovy cadence, feelgood vocal and a fast rhythm that operates on a funky touch. It finely dips between the fine line shared between Bass & Future House, labeled as “Future Room” (made popular by upcoming aliases like Debris, RudeLies) by the said record publishing insignia.

The song begins with the typical Future House trademark consisting of claps and a deep bassline, aiding the excellent vocal delivery that aces with its clever and heartwarming lyricism, thus easier to remember and grabby. After this section, the pace quickens with punchy kick-drums appearing in the composition, however developing into a “cliché”.

While the minimal Bass House inspired build-up of vocal (in a lower volume), claps and hi-hats works great, but it didn’t strike me as anything new. Since I was anticipating a Future House tune, this arrangement albeit generic clicked with me eventually.

Thus the simpler planning shows its merit yet the drop left with a bittersweet impression. Deploying distorted saw synths and vocal chops that triggers FXs and a teasing low-end,  although sounding mundane after a few listens. The drop gets the job done and at the same time leaving a ton of potential on the platter. Further it reruns in the second-half without much variation, side-lining the experimental approach one might be looking for.

Even if it falls short of some obvious flaws, the Dutch act has created a sensational summer tune by opting for uncomplicated and well-chosen elements with inclinations towards modernistic features in House genre.
