Curbi & Tchami – Make Amends (ft. Kyan Palmer)

February 20, 20212 min read

• Playful and melodic
• Individual styles hard to distinguish
• Radiant vocal presence

In the articles preceding this one, I noted often that Spinnin’ Records is in doldrums, releasing a barrage of commonplace and generic tracks. A few rare exceptions make their entrance now and then, one of the latest being the team-up between the French heavyweight Tchami and British talent Curbi presenting a surprising and spry collaboration for the audience. Both took this opportunity to heavily influence this production, as a special mention is deserved for Kyan Palmer’s performance. “Make Amends” further marks the return of Tchami after seven years on the Dutch imprint.

The Parisian veteran hooks attention from the beginning with a piano riff and classic breakbeat flow. Kyan’s vocal delivery works spot-on as a delicate and charming voice to lead. During the first drop, Curbi’s style can be noticed with heavy basslines and clever use of vocal chops never used before in repetition, with greater emphasis on keeping the rhythm interesting.

After this, the groove extends by accompanying along with new lyrical additions and a relaxing atmosphere positioned with Tchami’s percussion. From a perspective, the following up segment shares similarities with “Buenos Aires” (from the French producer). The use of edited snippets of vocal and distorted stabs of low-ends carry the dynamics, as it feels more from the mentioned act than Curbi, who had more say in the previous round.

“Make Amends” serves as a love-letter to the EDM fans that wanted something special for this Valentine’s Day. A heart-warming tune with a terrific vocal and an admirable and balanced out joint-effort. A shining endeavor!
