Brais & Dj Frog Feat Derek Joel – Broken

November 6, 20202 min read

• Club-friendly outcome, with powerful basslines
• Talented vocalist, but I didn’t click with his performance
• Professional quality, oldschool sound design

There is something going on with Radar releases, because this is the third one that manages to impress me this week! That’s quite impressive, considering that I rarely listen to the huge catalog of the Revealed sublabel. Today is the turn of “Broken” by Brais, DJ Frog and Derek Joel.

I must admit that I was already aware of Brais, thanks to an amazing production on Generation Smash a few weeks ago. His solid Progressive House hits a sweet spot with energetic basslines and dynamic melodies. While Deagon amazed me with a sweet atmosphere and Quando with romantic vibes, the Spanish creator and his collaborator DJ Frog delivered a more “club-friendly” result. I like how different details of these three songs impressed me, even if their genre is “common” Progressive House!

“Broken” features a vocal performance from Derek Joel that didn’t make me feel any particular emotion. The vocalist has talent, but I’m not really into his voice, I was more focused on the solid base under it. In fact, the schema has a peculiar elegance, delivering an entertaining experience.

My favorite part of “Broken” is the drop, where the schema becomes particularly interesting: we can hear an energetic pair of synths and a sort of “bouncy” bassline. It slightly reminded of me the old Alesso songs, where the combinations of melodic dynamism and energetic basslines created real masterpieces. “Broken” follows that oldschool vibe, with excellent results. Next step, as I always recommend: make it unique, evolving the signature sound.
