James O’Hea x ATHANASIA – How I Feel

October 12, 20202 min read

• Classic Future House piano, playing a lovely melody
• Excellent vocal performance by ATHANASIA
• Lightweight structure, very simple

“How I Feel” is that kind of lightweight tune that gives a nostalgic memory of the summer, and at the same time warms the heart up with a dose of positive vibes. It’s becoming cold here, I needed some of this heat!

The creators behind this poppish tune are the Irish James O’Hea and the Australian vocalist ATHANASIA; both of them impressed me with a structure that, technically speaking, follows the boundaries of Commercial Future House…  But entertains the listener!

Sometimes I’m like that; I close an eye about experimentations and I focus on the good vibes shared by music. “How I Feel”, hironically, reflects this aspect of me: that’s how I feel today, I want to review a passionate tune that gave me a good time. Its structure, as said, is simple: we have a standard Future House piano, a good work on the sidechain, usual percussions. ATHANASIA’s vocal fits pretty well with this minimal base: the two elements (base-voice) represent a powerful sinergy that could have been furtherly explored, maybe with some variations in the final segment. I think that the creators simply focused on a minimal, effective product, resulting in a lightweight schema.

My favorite element, the one that definitively stuck in my mind, was the melody created by O’Hea. It may seem simple at first, but in the end it follows its own pattern, in a delicate sequence… It became hypnotic around the first minute mark, and I found myself hooked to it.

Even if “How I Feel” becomes a bit repetitive in the long run, its rhythm can become addicting when in the right mood. It’s a chilly production that can give you a boost of happiness, save it for the emergencies!
