• The third collaboration between the producer and the singer
• Bonn’s voice works amazingly!
• Personal perplexities about the drop’s melody
I loved “High On Life” (my favourite Garrix song lately), I immensely appreciated “No Sleep” too, while the third chapter left me, well, perplexed.
I have mixed feelings about Garrix’s soft progressive house style: sometimes it amazes me and the other times bores me to death. I guess that my experience depends on how much I like the melody. Unfortunately, with “Home”, my experience has been negative, but only with the drop.
The third “Bonnix” team-up begins with an excellent segment! A classy guitar accompanies Bonn’s exceptional performance with a rock’n’roll fashion. He’s becoming one of my favorite vocalists, thanks to his passionate and energetic approaches! Garrix progressively added some of his style, switching into a more EDM buildup. His lead is easily recognizable, even though I felt that there was a strong Jay Hardway influence here. This slowness, based on pauses and breaks, is typical of many of his recent releases. The young star has experimented with a slower, more introverted and static pace, and I appreciate that. No one can say that Garrix is stuck in his boundaries, even in these “commercial” tracks.
As aforementioned, I’m not a fan of the drop. My first thought while listening to it was a perplexed, “Just that?“. Following a calm progressive house melody, the structure doesn’t manage to get me excited. There is potential in the bassline, and the atmosphere is warm and joyful (like in a “Home” context), with the sudden vocal shots by Bonn. Not a bad idea, but I didn’t personally find the melody all that entertaining. Compared to the previous installments, “Home” just doesn’t have the same effect.
So, this is it. Bonn & Garrix work well together, but “Home” doesn’t work well with me. As far as I know STMPD, the track will receive many reworks, and I’ll probably find the right version for me in one of these packages. Try to see if you find the original appealing enough; otherwise, we will meet up in a couple of weeks with the remixes.
