CMC$ – Stupid Dumb (feat. SVEA)

January 31, 20202 min read

Quality and befitting vocal
Predictable structure complying to the genre guidelines
Complex vocal chopped drop segment

CMC$ makes pop-leaning EDM that we decide to rarely review here (mostly because of the large number of artists who are just after the trend, releasing forgettable cash grabbers), however today we decided to give him a chance. And our select: his latest release on STMPD with SVEA, called “Stupid Dumb“.

The Dutch producer is a stable and recurring member of the STMPD roster since the beginning and has released various quality releases during the years. His biggest hit is surely “Not Going Home” with (sigh) DVVBS; additionally, I would like to underline his splendid work in “Understand Me“, with Conor Maynard.

His happier take at future bass doesn’t exactly excel with creativity, in the end, these are standard structures, but gosh… The quality level is outstanding. In “Stupid Dumb” we find a delicate atmosphere, relaxing yet capable of building up a certain climax until the drop, with the help of the Swedish singer SVEA. The latter segment utilizes an intricate vocal chop system, constantly alternating between natural and distorted voices, and I must admit that for a casual listener like me, it was clearly one step ahead of the rest.

CMC$ cooked up a satisfying recipe, utilizing common ingredients and a splendid vox, and “Stupid Dumb” pops out as a well-crafted output. I particularly enjoyed SVEA’s performance and the elaborate connections in the vocal chops.

Sure, these sounds are disliked by the fair share of our fans because they are usually executed with textbook ideas… But I feel that CMC$ has talent and he deserves a chance. So, “Stupid Dumb” could be the occasion to shift perspective and explore the commercial side of EDM, which hides amazing surprises amidst itself at times!
