Chocolate Puma & Firebeatz – Soul Fifty

January 20, 20202 min read

• 90s House arrangements
• Funky and minimal schematics
• Rhythmic bassline and chord stabs

Some team-ups are appreciated to the point that they are done many times over.
After their previous collaboration on Musical Freedom “Blackout“, Dutch powerhouses Chocolate Puma and Firebeatz have presented another joint-effort. After almost two years, both of them have concocted a solid House-y record titled “Soul Fifty”, which is nothing short of energetic, befitting for the clubs and festival gigs alike!

The dynamic pair has come up with notable productions such as “Lullaby” and “I Can’t Understand”. Around the same time last year, I got a chance to talk about their preceding work. “Blackout” swore to minimal arrangements, centering itself to an alluring vocal presence. It finally leaned towards Bass House characteristics (being a Musical Freedom release), utilising the few chosen elements with proper drive and groove to it!

Now towards their latest project, the instrumental does justice to its title. Immediately after its commencement, syncopated Dance piano-riff hover around to deliver the 90s House feel. To accentuate the funky tone, we have a single-phrase vocal which repeats over. Heavily inspiring itself from the classical arrangements of the evergreen genre, the emphasis on the booming bassline and chord stabs remains ever-present on the track. Nevertheless, the resonating production makes its impressions on the listener without many compromises!

In a final conclusion, “Soul Fifty” caters splendidly not only to the experienced audience who prefer this underground vibes, but the ones who are curious about discovering the vibrant side of this genus!
