Marcus Santoro ft. Lauren L’aimant – Blackout

January 16, 20202 min read

• Progressive Trance schematics
• Alluring vocal performance
• Entrancing synth hook

Mention of the Australian powerhouse Marcus Santoro immediately rings a bell among the readers here, as he has gone great lengths in experimenting, especially with the Dutch imprint Protocol. Ever since his début release there, which started off with a solid remix of the alluring song ‘My Way’ by the label-owner Nicky Romero, he has further provided exquisite singles such as “Shine”. The latest creation from his has been titled as “Blackout”, which delves deeper to his signature sound.

With saturation of Progressive arrangements in the industry, ‘Blackout’ intrigued me to another extent. This composition leans towards the melodic Trance arrangements, a rarity in Protocol. Compared to his preceding record “Shine”, this track rather agrees on building up elegantly before delivering the climax. The avant-garde structure works great, emphasising on the euphoric vibes.

Coming to today’s highlight, the effective timbre embedded by the talented English vocalist Lauren L’aimant plays a significant role. The track is further supplemented with alluring vocal chops with the chord progression. Introducing itself with an Electro bassline, it intensifies towards the breakdown. One could even mistake it for “A State Of Trance” release, with the following segment introducing majestic pianoforte to the leading voice. Things take an interesting turn with an appealing and arpeggiating harmonic synth hook materializing along with the other components. Without any over-doing of sorts, the single makes quite an impression!

Concluding, I can definitely vouch for the wise decision taken by the label for accepting a different style, and there is no doubt that Melbourne based solo act continues to enthrall the audience again!
