DubVision – Young Money

September 26, 20192 min read

• Great disco vibes
• Original sound design
• Simple but effective harmonization

It’s been a long time since the first one I listened to a DubVision track. If I don’t remember bad, that song was “You & I“, featuring Project 46 (what happened to those amazing guys?) and Donna Lewis as the vocalist. After all this time following their career, they’re still one of the only duos that are able to surprise me again and again. Between all their progressive releases, they sometimes bring us unexpected experimental tracks that are next level. “Young Money” is a clear example of it.

As the experienced pianists they are, when you listen to a DubVision tune you always expect them to deliver good chords. “Young Money” is all about a chord progression made of just three chords: they don’t need more. The mysterious ambience of both breaks slightly remembered me of some Jonas Aden stuff, but that feeling disappeared when the build-up drums start playing. To make the second break a bit fresher and unique, they managed to add a vocal sample that fits pretty well with the overall mood of the song.

While I was imagining some kind of future house drop, I suddenly forget about that first idea when some big old school chords started playing the previously presented progression. The groovy disco vibes are present everywhere, from the percussion to the bouncy rhythm elements, crafting a solid and original drop that is far away from the standards of any of the trendy genres.

Following their “underground” series that features different tracks like the classic “Sweet Harmony” or “Are You Listening“, they left progressive aside another time to experiment with other sounds and rhythms. But don’t worry too much if you’re a progressive house fan, because they also released a “Summer Air” remix which is really worth listening!
