Yozo – Bad Girl

• Unique and particular arrangements
• Sublime breakdown
• Heavy but spry drop segment

It is fascinating to hear refreshing arrangements in Dance music, all credits due to the heavy influx of new and promising talents in the scene. As our readers have fathomed by now, our thoughts would be exclusively on a up and coming Belgium based solo act, Yozo. We are particularly interested in articulating on his specific signature sound, which he has crafted with his brand new creation “Bad Girl”. Unveiled in the prestigious European label of 2Dutch, this specifically impressive single has urged us to pen down our two cents about it.

For those who think this might be the uprising Belgian’s breakthrough work, it is not. He has already put his best foot forward on the esteemed Armada imprint, having teamed-up with the distinguished Firebeatz last year. Before that, he debuted on the mentioned label via “The Bearded Man”. After working with the alluring Future House sound, he reconstructed his usual style, going for a more House-y and percussive-laden timbre.

“Bad Girl” is an unexpected brew of Electro House components, and this is pronounced right from the start. As one can form a rough sketch from the name, there is plenty of aggressive or “dirty” vibes present. While we have a catchy male vocal snippet paired with a sublime and melodic atmosphere in the breakdown, the drop flips the polarity by delivering droning and distorted drop synths, which operates on a single note. The beat pattern remains a four by four, with customary drum one-shots assisting. The lead synth piqued our curiosity, resembling white-noise like tone. Apart from that, the bassline conforms to booming sub-bass layered with a chiming and plucky one, adding further groove to the entire package.

Finalising our thoughts, “Bad Girl” is a deserving release on the label, as Yozo has devised a vibrant and somewhat avant-garde composition!
