Oskah – Taipan

September 18, 20193 min read

• Clean, powerful and dynamic drop
• Predictable structure stuck within dark progressive boundaries
• Excellent quality level, next step: uniqueness

Oskah is such a fascinating figure. I barely managed to find something from his social channels; he seems like a producer that prefers keeping on his own, without exposing too much. A strategy that, being an introvert person, I perfectly understand. However, I do have some info about him.

He’s Australian, he has already had three releases on Revealed.dj and has a style that has a lot of potential. He had my attention since “Cicada” (2018), a dark progressive tune that had a particular acidity in it, despite a mixdown that disappointed my ears, and I started paying more attention with “Escape“. He always uses his dynamic dark prog approach (KSHMR influenced? Probably), but his melodies are still unpredictable, I like it! Sure, there is a lot of room for improvements, but he’s on the right path because I love every new release a bit more than the previous one!

That’s the case with “Taipan“, released last Friday on Revealed.dj, whose owners are probably pondering about Oskah’s talent! “Taipan” has a simple structure, consisting of a cinematic breakdown, slowly introducing us into the main melody (with some elegant strings), and a classic big room oriented drop. I’m in love with the tune, in short. It’s incredibly catchy and powerful, a real pleasure to listen to this work. The drop is cleaner than his previous ones, introducing a splendid bassline and percussions on point. There isn’t the creativity aspect I’m hoping for, despite having a recognizable lead, but I think it’s another step forward for the Australian artist. He is mastering the basics, and I think he’s ready for experimenting.

This review is purely based on my instinct: I rarely enjoy a Revealed.dj release so much that stays in the boundaries of the genre. I don’t consider it “generic” (despite being nothing new for the label), but somewhat predictable, while the extraordinary quality balances its mediocre creativity. I’m waiting for the next move by Oskah; his style can transform into something exciting: I feel it!
