Hardwell & Quintino – Reckless

July 19, 20192 min read

• Generically energy-driven
• Dirty Dutch influences
• Old-school Electro elements

While the month of July has almost approached its dawn, we have yet another goliath of a collaboration unveiled this Friday. We are speaking about the latest team-up of the Dutch front-runners Hardwell and Quintino.

Their joint-efforts have been successful again and again. With their annual tie-ups, this time they have crafted their own concoction of Electro House. Titled as “Reckless”, the aggressive and vigorous production almost ticks on all the requisites, making it a driving tune for the oncoming festivals.

It was the wintry month of December 2016, when the two luminaries decided to work on what would be known as “Baldadig” later. The big and brass-y breakdown along with the endeared squeaky and heavy Dutch-synths made it a hit, leading to revealing of “Woest”. A follow-up for its predecessor, the track stuck to usual arrangements: combination of an absonant but effective drop along with percussion-laden groove. The highlight on the Dirty-Dutch style made both of this songs more than capable, and hence the audience demanded for a third sequent. Additionally, let’s not forget that the duo has also worked on “Scorpion (Hardwell Edit)” and on a “Mi Gente” Remix (which was basically a mashup with “Baldadig”).

“Wreckless” doesn’t deviate from the said formula, and the schematics strongly emanate the respective signatures. The inaugurating drop section kick-starts with sounds synonymous to “Brasil Connect” or “Inferno”. As expected, a thumping low-end kick aids the strident riffing components, as the hulking rhythm brings in more drumming to the beat. Unlike the antecessor, the breakdown tunes to a melodic tone. With a touch of old-school Electro, this part of the track emphasizes on the Trance-y plucks and supersaws, strongly suggesting that the leading Bredaër artist had more say in it. The climactic portion remains the same, but also involving the saw-synth, to add variety and stamina to the rhythm.

At the beginning of this article, we said this single “almost” ticks on all the boxes. Intense as it might be, “Wreckless” misses the bullseye with its slightly prosaic structure. Nonetheless, this synergistic product is absolutely festival-friendly!
