Thomas X Martin – Neptuna

June 19, 20191 min read

• Delicate, oneiric essence
• Curious melodic approach
• Relaxing experience

It’s a tedious period, with exams, hot weather, reggaeton and pop hits to review. I must admit that I’ve been slightly stressed lately. Luckily, Thomas X Martin, a British producer, impressed me with a refreshing debut composition, “Neptuna”.

I’ll be honest, “Neptuna” doesn’t radiate energy or aggressiveness through its structure. It’s relaxing, with an elegant personality owing to the beautiful work on the strings. Violins, together with a heavy bassline and a delicate lead, create a magical, oneiric atmosphere. A whistle in the riff adds the icing on the cake.

The melody takes you on a magical trip: relaxing, but never dull. At first, I considered it rather dispersive, and, in fact, Thomas X Martin used extremely complex sequences… A risky choice, but I appreciated the mood he created, making sure the track is consistently an earworm. Thus, I wonder how a more straightforward melody would have worked here.

With my doubts about the melodic approach, I must confirm that the experience with “Neptuna” has been positive. The producer created a summery composition that could easily be enjoyed on the beach, or while enjoying a cold drink. It left me with a peaceful sensation.
