Haus Of Panda – PUNK’D

May 31, 20192 min read

• Engaging rework of “Punk” by Ferry Corsten
• Dynamic bass house drop
• Breakdown lacks a captivating ingredient

Until Now, the second studio album by the legendary Swedish House Mafia album released in 2012 ended on a beautiful note. The last song was a Mashup of “Save The World” and “Ferry Corsten – Punk (Arty Rock-n-Rolla Mix)”. I still remember my surprise when that fabulous drop came in; it was the perfect way to end such a legendary album. This encouraged me to find out about the original “Punk”, which even though it is 17 years old, the melody is still fresh and exhilarating!

Coming back from the past, you may wonder why am I talking about how I discovered “Punk” today, in 2019? Because Haus Of Panda just reworked it, with “PUNK’D”, added a twist that I couldn’t resist reviewing!

I’m not an expert of the genre, (Bass House, but sped up – referring to his ‘Speed-house’ movement and style) but the drop is still ear-candy to me! Mixing bass house with a pinch of craziness, Haus Of Panda picked the original melody and smashed it after a sudden buildup. I must admit that the breakdown is missing a basic definition, the high pitched vocals are a detail that I rarely find amusing, but that was just in the beginning. I wasn’t 100% convinced by it, and feel that the break could have had more justice.

As already said, the drop changes everything. It reminds me slightly of Joyride, but the Canadian artist tastefully added his personality. Sudden switches between the “Punk” elements and vocal shouts, growls, twirls and new samples dance around in a magical atmosphere. Entertaining and unpredictable!

Ferry Corsten and his hit received some illustrious treatments, but they should be proud of this one. This is an honest opinion coming from a beginner level for a bass house listener: “PUNK’D” is a beautiful creation.
