Kehlani feat. Ty Dolla $ign – Nights Like This (Deagon Remix)

June 1, 20193 min read

• Smooth, satisfying and energetic bootleg
• The progressive drop is purely delicious
• Ty Dolla $ign is a bit out of place here

It’s yet another Progressive House track! Something about this genre pulls me towards it, and today it’s the turn of Deagon, a Greek producer who reworked “Nights Like This” with absolute impeccability! The original left me hoping for better (I’m not a fan of Ty Dolla $ign, while Kehlani does have a powerful and passionate voice). The base, even though it’s a pop song, was anonymous. I should add that the official video tells a beautiful story, that was one detail I vividly remember about Nights Like This”.

So, Deagon managed to change my opinion about the Kehlani song completely. He used the kind of energetic progressive house is delicate but still manages to be dancefloor-worthy, Manse is the leading influencer here. The drop is splendid; it combines the vocals from Kehlani and adds a bouncy bassline which is supported by an engaging melody. Typical Progressive House, lacking an inventive concept, but two things impressed me enough to compensate for it. The quality of the production being first: the kick is perfectly balanced & the bassline is distinct and crisp. I was surprised by its well managed technical quality despite it being a bootleg! Secondly, I didn’t imagine that the poppish aura of “Nights Like This” could adapt so well to a clubbish twist. All the transitions are smooth, and the elements aren’t clashing. Again, I was doubtful about it being a bootleg. I’ve seen many and worse official remixes.

Unfortunately, Ty Dolla $ign is still present in the second section, and as was expected, his part doesn’t fit with the rest. I felt that it was impeding the dynamism of this remix. This verse only lasts for 20 seconds, though.

From my standpoint, Deagon deserves an official release as a remix – owing to the effort that he has put into the track. It remains a fantasy, taking into account the fame of the artists involved. However, I wanted to present it to you guys. His bootleg of “Nights Like This” doesn’t have the peculiarity I look for in a song, but has an impressive quality. Satisfying and suggested.
