Nicky Romero & Teamworx – Deep Dark Jungle

March 14, 20192 min read

• Sequel to “Champion Sound”
• Analogous and recognizable structure
• Engaging breakdown

Past Friday marked a significant release for leading Dutch imprint Protocol Recordings, between the luminary heavyweight Nicky Romero and the talented duo in contemporary scene, Teamworx. This time, they have delivered yet another festival-friendly production for their fan-base. Titled as “Deep Dark Jungle”, this record keeps the essentials for providing that intense sound.

Before we proceed with this particular collaboration, it will be unfair not to talk about the previous joint-effort. Released back in the end of September 2017, “Champion Sound” was an instant hit in the catalogue of Protocol Recordings. Utilizing a hulking offbeat bassline, the track also featured a majestic break segment with tribal elements. The strongest point was obviously the cadence involved, which made it vigorous yet creative to many ends.

Now finally our thoughts about our subject of this article. The instrumental initiates quite well, mainly the recognizable male vocal, which acts as the pre-drop excitement. Following it, the leading section introduces a similar pattern of synths in the bass, having the same swing and pattern(if not slightly slower). However, the breakdown hits a nice sweet-spot by a chiming wind instrument, which definitely is an ethnic sound in our opinion. It adds a distinctive flavour in the whole platter, making it even engaging (Kind of like the grand Piano from “Champion Sound”). As expected, the breakdown quickly picks up pace, and transitions smoothly to the energetic drop, without much delay.

In a few words, while this production may not match to the vibrancy of “Champion Sound”, yet its analogous structure to the above-mentioned makes it an impressive tool for the dance-floor!
