• Wild, mysterious breakdown sequence
• Groovy drop, without exceeding in aggressiveness
• Stunning performance by Paul Green, a new name to check out!
I must admit it: I like almost every song that Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman produce. Call me a fanboy, I deserve it, but their progressive sound and my heart are inextricably connected.
However, their tribal/groovy side style is entirely different and far from their sweet melodies… Which was difficult for me to appreciate in the beginning. Then I understood that this different approach could give beautiful gems as well. That’s the case with “Pyramids“: after progressive gems like “Phantom” and “Born At Night“, the Swedish duo is back with a wild, ferocious, and hypnotic collab with Paul Green. The connational producer already impressed us with a splendid “One” rework, and his style is unpredictable and exciting.
I loved how the breakdown presents a mix between euphoric progressive house, an elegant background system of strings, and a vocal loop that adds a certain mysterious aura to the final output. The transition between mysterious and tribal is smooth as silk, evolving into a groovy and bouncy drop, with the main lead in addition to the first one. I really liked the second idea, because the first sequence sounded slightly empty in my opinion… I’m not a big fan of whistles, being honest.
Concluding, “Pyramids” is a good release. It has a breakdown full of personality, a drop that doesn’t focus on aggressiveness but instead on hypnotizing the listener, and a solid structure. Unusual groovy production, but DV&W have gotten us used to surprises, and Paul Green has an extremely refreshing style. Both approaches fit really well together!
