Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman – Born At Night

August 31, 20182 min read

86/100

• Powerful bassline, accompanied by an emotional melody
• Clever vocal choice
• Delicate yet vibrant atmosphere

Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman are capable to make progressive gems even without vocals… Imagine when this time there is a stunning voice over their magical instrumental!

“Born At Night” is another diamond from the Swedish Duo that delighted us in the past with tracks like “Payback” (with Steve Angello) or “ID2”. A sweet and delicate song, that focus on an extraordinary bassline and a signature emotional melody. We review a lot of progressive (it’s a genre that we really like), but in this case, the high rating is a must.

Two elements impressed us, in particular. Vocal and bassline.

The bassline stunned us. It’s slightly more energetic than usual, full of vibrant energy and dynamism. A masterpiece of its own genre, and, in fact, the Swedish duo is a master in that. Perfection.

Special mention to the melody, of course. We are used to those extraordinary notes already, but new fans will get in love with the delicate essence of the song. It’s hard to describe, the only words we can use are “it’s a pure DV&W melody“.

The vocal is exactly what we are expecting to hear over such a delicate breakdown. The vocalist, uncredited, delivered a lovely performance. The moment when her voice stops and the drop’s melody begins playing left us completely amazed. We struggled with deciding which part of that transition was better: the relaxing break or the euphoric drop.

Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman simply can’t fail with progressive house. We loved “Phantom“, we are crazy about “Born At Night”. The vocal, in addition to an extraordinary bassline, makes this piece of art one of our favourite tunes of 2018.

The structure is a classic DV&W one, piano break + melodic buildup + emotional drop, but the quality, the energy, the goosebumps, the whole atmosphere brings us to the legendary “Payback” levels of craziness.

What a year for EDM.
