82/100
• Well… Super acid Drop
• Captivating buildup section
• Fantastic balance between old and new sounds
Usually, we don’t like simple titles, but “Acid Drop” describes in a perfect way this stunning collaboration between Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman and Futuristic Polar Bears (from now, abbreviated into DV&W and FTB). So damn acid.
It’s quite a particular tune, difficult to include in a clear category. It could work well during livesets, but at the same time will fascinate the olschool Electro House lovers, while bringing, in addition, a wise touch of innovation. Both styles fit well together, as already seen in their previous collab “Grizzly“… The groovy structure by the Swedish duo and the classic aggressiveness of the polar trio are a fatal combination!
“Acid Drop” is almost completely focused on the drop, so we will start from that part. A DV&W horn dominates a dark, groovy structure, made of hard drums and a frenetic, hypnotic Electro House pattern. It slightly reminds the old Nicky Romero style (2012) or, more actual, the Teamworx one, heavily influenced by the 5 artists involved. Overall, it’s a gorgeous result, which fuses old-school vibes with new groovy elements. Difficult to appreciate if you are not into those sounds, but a gem of the genre, for us.
The breakdown didn’t really impress us, at the beginning… Then, slowly, the atmosphere becomes sparkling. We appreciated the FTB big room saws, together with the acid and frenetic transition, adding an unexpectedly energetic twist to that section.
In conclusion, “Acid Drop” is, well, a great acid drop. The collaboration rotates around that part, and the final result is definitively entertaining. We have an intriguing and surely underrated release for Buce Recordings!
