BYLAW is… Satisfying

October 24, 20182 min read

A couple of days before being crowned as #1 DJ of the world by DJ Mag (sigh), our magic boy Martin Garrix released a great EP. “BYLAW” shows the EDM side of the 22-year-old talent with creativity, elegance, quality and a solid dose of aggressive vibes. Overall, that’s a good compilation, with interesting collaborations and unpredictable surprises: time for a quick analysis.

Breach
87/100

Banger. We didn’t see such an aggressive Blinders track since his previous masterpiece “Sirene” on Protocol, 3 years ago… We are fascinated by those elegant chords and the hypnotic electro house drop. With a pinch of nostalgia, we love this unexpectedly gorgeous collab.

Yottabyte
70/100

We are back with computer-related titles, isn’t it?
Garrix used a classic progressive structure with his signature lead, similar to many of his releases, “Spotless” and “Pizza” in particular. While “Yottabyte” doesn’t have the energy of the cited tunes, but the classy breakdown makes it an enjoyable and sweet release. Not a masterpiece of creativity, but it does share happy and joyful vibes.

Latency
83/100

Good old Dyro, we missed you! “Latency” brings back nostalgic vibes and a perfect balance between two very different styles. The relaxing vocal adds an unexpected smoothness to the Dyro Electro house structure, then the whole tune escalates in a classic crazy drop. That’s the surprise track of the EP, a solid composition that we underestimated: we were expecting way worse than that. It slightly lacks in aggressiveness though.

Access
66/100

Computer-related title again, good vibes agaaaain. “Access” is a sweet production with quite a dispersive melody, difficult to follow for us, but it has such a cute vocal! It’s experimental, so we are not going hard on it, but we found it complicated to enjoy, compared to the other tunes.

Waiting For Tomorrow
76/100

That’s a vocal progressive track, in collaboration with Pierce Fulton and Mike Shinoda (what a voice!). Rich of vibrant energy, it does its job with, finally, a powerful bassline. Don’t expect a generic drop! We liked its unpredictable concept and the climax created by the buildup which is also our favorite section of the collaboration.
