Catching me unawares, Michael Phase impressed me with this type of a song, considering that the American producer specializes on harder genres with his discography peaking at a rushing 200 BPM, just to give you a rough idea.
After producing such vigorous genres and style, “Count On You” is quite a remarkable move into the deeper and sublime realms of Melodic Progressive House. And that is probably where the secret remains: the ability to ingrain that festival dynamism, which we here at EDM Reviewer greatly admire, thus avoiding the tropes any genre usually presents. In fact, we believe that most of the time, its this sort of outsider approach that help blurring the genre lines. As the producer told you, the idea was born during the lockdown, when he noticed the difficult situation of several listenerers. “Count Of You” is, thus, a song about hope that tries to fill the fans with joy and happiness.
The said producer acted wisely here, approaching with an old-school schema that is further boosted by a modicum of Future Rave influence with its lead synths, and a splendid vocal presence that integrates with rest of the composition. This formula might seem simple to most, but hey, we can confirm it works. Minimalism is a perk that is specific in the field of Dance music, if applied correctly, does wonders. The atmosphere is delicately sweet and subtle, yet there’s the energetic structure in the background!
Refreshing and “out of box” mentality massively assist the mentioned track, as it makes me further curious to see if future experiments such as this would procure such delightful results. Even if he sticks to his usual sound, this experience surely will grant him further courage to differentiate. Great work!
