Sick Individuals – The Key

Pushing forward their signature sound to new levels, eminent Dutch pair Sick Individuals have greater plans for this year. While the preceding year also experienced the other side of them, focused on radio-friendly pop, it seems even better this year. Unveiling their latest release, titled “The Key”, the Netherlands based duo are debuting on Maxximize Recordings, the esteemed label imprint of none other than Blasterjaxx themselves.

After being featured alongside label boss Hardwell for “Hardwell & Friends EP” last December, they apparently spent quality time in the studio and finally came out with “Kodi” last month. This record saw the dynamic pair experimenting with classical electro house and their distinctive style. Infused with a snazzy breakdown and a peppy but effective drop, it definitely assured the listeners that there was certainly more splendid productions to come sooner. And not even a month has passed by, and we have “The Key”. This again, as obviously can be deducted, focuses on the groovy and slightly melodic side of electro house.

The track initiates with force to transition into a brief pre-drop break, slowly materialising the drop melody. Gathering the right tension level, a teaser of the vocal (which plays a significant role later in the main breakdown) comes up, bringing the riser into effect. What follows after is the expected drop with unexpected rhythm. Introducing a plucky synth and swirling bassline, another screeching synth swap places to embed variations. But, this doesn’t repeat after the first round, and leads up to the second breakdown.

Following segment of the song adds an atmospheric, almost cinematic tone.

Enhancing this, the familiar vocal places itself, capturing attention. After this engaging hiatus, the saw synths blazes into the scene. Playing the same melody with more intensity, the final riser sweeps in, elevating into the concluding drop. Creatively, this one focuses on being more melodic, having another set of notes added. This surely does make it even catchier and vivid, ending this track on a high note.

Summing up, “The Key” is a genuine follow up to their previous release, and adds to the arsenal which the duo will employ on their oncoming gigs successfully.
