“Top Of The World” by GARABATTO and Ira Losco just left me speechless

95\100

It’s tough being a reviewer.
Our life is constantly focused on searching for interesting music to present. It’s not easy, we spend hours of our days listening to new music, searching for “that song”, the song that will make our jaws drop.

Many tunes, obviously, are able to impress us, but “Top Of The World” literally left me speechless. It’s something unique, and trust me, I should present some reasons for an almost perfect 95/100. Every instant of this glorious monster by GARABATTO and Ira Losco is an incredible concentrate of surprises. It’s basically ENTERTAINING and capable of surprising me with every section. Before the end I was like “impossible, there shouldn’t be any more genres” and bam, another genre.

So, let’s start with the description of this crazy work of art. There is trap, dubstep, electro house, hard bounce, soft hardcore, moombahton, a pinch of poppish vocal which evolves into something more aggressive, and that damn piano that I can’t even classify. There is the whole GARABATTO’s catalogue of sounds. The Spanish artist has some really nice releases on Bourne (Bounce), Panda Funk (Deorro’s label) and this new release on the trap label HYPRMODE.
The vocalist is the awesome Ira Losco, you may have seen her at the 2016 Eurovision contest, one of the most famous Maltese singers.

Anyway, let’s get back to “Top Of The World”.

After a majestic and quite calm initial break, Ira Losco’s voice suddenly gets distorted in a brutal buildup and the squeaky initial drop begin to play. I personally loved the effect of this lead: unpredictable, slightly funny, yet aggressive. The first drop fuses trap and dubstep influences, while the following one introduces a perfect hard bounce part. It was at that moment that I began to fall in love with “Top Of The World”: the elegance and incredible way in which GARABATTO literally plays around with various genres are unique, I’ve never seen so many switches with so much smoothness… Always maintaining that alternate classy piano-squeaky mood that balances the smoothness of the transitions despite the brutal changes of mood.

It’s a thing with two layers: the mood continuously changes from calm to aggressive (breaks-drops), but those fractures are harsh in a way to mask the fact that GARABATTO is bringing together more than 6 different genres! Unbelievable.

The final part of “Top Of The World” is what definitely shocked me: a speeded up further break begins to play, I was expecting another hard bounce drop, and then

Moombahton.

With the squeaky trap lead. What a genius.

In conclusion, this review isn’t even able to explain well why “Top Of The World” is a 95\100. I would need way more words for putting down all the crazy musical choices of this Spanish genius. However, I made sure to explain the overall concept of this gem: its craziness and unpredictableness!

You may disagree with me, in the end, this is just my humble opinion, but I’ve listened to thousands of songs this month, and “Top Of The World” is the most creative, crazy and entertaining production I’ve found. Trust me.
