And KSHMR’s back to EDM! After a great Hip Hop album, it’s time to experiment with Future Rave with “Tears On The Dancefloor”.

• Excellent initial sequence
• Thrilling vocal performance!
• Something amiss in the drop

It’s nice to see KSHMR returning to EDM after his successful Indian hip-hop album “Karam“. A producer experimenting with new sounds in a genre he has familiarity with and passion for is fun— and while I am not the target audience— the result is entertaining, interesting, and creative to experience.

But back to EDM!

With “Tears On The Dancefloor“, the American creative had a very peculiar idea: unite Future Rave with a potent vocal rendition from Hannah Boleyn in order to make something solemn; suitable for the dancefloor, that is. The song is elegant, especially in the intro: in this section, Hannah sings with vitality and enthusiasm, accompanied by simple chords that slowly open up into a Future Rave drop! The transition is fascinating between the different atmospheres; both fun and surprising! KSHMR played his cards well— especially in the drop— which is standard (clearly he’s not a mainstay in this subgenre) but that emphatic bassline turned things lively. I felt a Trancey influence around the central breakdown, while the final drop is arguably the best with a more enriched performance. The showstopper, most of the time, is Hanna Boleyn: what a performance!

“Tears On The Dancefloor” is a noteworthy initiative from KSHMR, which isn’t afraid to dabble in the trending genre. The breakdown, especially the initial moments, is first-rate and in line with the high standards. I was hoping for more twists to unfold in the drop, though this track has kept me waiting for the follow-up to this one. Not bad at all!
