Alok, Bhaskar & Jetlag Music – Bella Ciao

May 7, 20182 min read

75/100

Being Italian,Bella Ciao” is a song from my culture. It represents the fight against Nazis lead by Partigiani, the movement of the resistance back in WW2.

Why is there a rework on Spinnin’? And why am I not triggered by that?

Well, the first reason is easy: “Bella Ciao” is trending now, thanks to the Netflix series “La Casa De Papel“. I must admit that it’s a really nice series (despite having a couple of plot holes)… And “Bella Ciao”, long story, is the kind of “Anthem” of this band of robbers.

Even though most of the people don’t know the real message behind “Bella Ciao”, it’s nice to see some Italian music reworked in a modern key. It’s such a beautiful song, even though in the rework the vocal is Spanish (?!). I am pretty sure that some people would be disappointed to see such an important concept reworked in a commercial way, but well, everybody has their own opinion.

Mine is, basically, that Alok, Bhaskar & Jetlag Music worked well, failing just with the vocal. Hearing Spanish lyrics over those notes are clashing in a terrible way, but I loved how Alok used his signature Brazilian bass over the relaxing melody. It fits pretty well, I heard various remixes but this one found the right harmony between classic and modern.

“Bella Ciao” is a normal release, nothing particularly spectacular, but keeps a harmonious balance that delighted me. Alok doesn’t even need to be presented, we all know his talent, and I’m glad that there are expert hands on this release. Bhaskar and Jetlag Music added that freshness to complete the structure. With a little bit of internal triggering because of the vocal, I’m happy to assign a 75 to “Bella Ciao”.

Summer is here, and I’m pretty sure we’ll hear it very often in the next months!
