Blasterjaxx – Rio

May 7, 20182 min read

79/100

After only a month from their previous release, the renowned Dutch duo act Blasterjaxx has presented us with yet another splendid work. Proving their domineering presence this year, the pair has experimented with some different sounds while infusing their own signature aggressive style to it. Their latest production brings up Latin and tribal elements and steps up further for an intense big room house drop. Titled “Rio”, this fresh and kinetic track boasts of strong rhythms and energy.  It is a special release, by the way: the 50th Maxximize Recordings release!

If we take a brief recap over Blasterjaxx’ latest discography, the duo has been evidently spending quality time in the studio.
Initiating the year with “Phoenix”, along with the talented Olly James, they came up with “1 Second” in the month of March. Ultra Miami also revealed their upcoming collaboration with Dutch powerhouse Hardwell, christened “Big Room Never Dies”. With all this music incoming, Blasterjaxx has surely set higher goals for this year, impressing their fan base, including us, unfailingly.
But before we draw any conclusions, let us come back to “Rio”.

Clearly inspired by South American music, this song charms the listener’s ears with exotic melody and swirling percussions. Being precise, “Rio” is a tribute to the famous Brazilian hit “Samba De Janeiro”. In fact, the breakdown fades in with the well known cinematic and dramatic elements, looping in an ethnic but flamboyant melody. Adding an organic touch with soaring orchestral parts, the drums materialize along with the riser in precision, launching the groovy and dynamic drop with flair.

The drop sets the stamina at a peaking level, introducing a dirty synth riff, supported with a solid backdrop bassline. Even if the drop could be termed minimal and simple, it works perfectly in the given circumstances. As said in tunes like “Savage” or “You Found Me” (with similar drops), Blasterjaxx are always able to add that explosiveness that makes them incredibly captivating!
Surmising, “Rio” delivers the required festival harmonics as expected. Summer is here, and Blasterjaxx decided to bring their contribute… With the usual incredible quality!
