With many massive collaborations already happening in the scene, we have yet another successful collab. Eminent American Producer Deorro has teamed up with the Australian duo act SCNDL, resulting in the production of a creative and competent track titled “Sonar”. Released past Friday on Deorro’s esteemed label Panda Funk, this song hits the listeners with the distinct “hard bounce” groove, while at the same time adding more characteristic ferocity of classic Electro house elements and scheme.

“Sonar” proves to be quite interesting and aggressive, as there are major influences from Deorro’s style, polished further by SCNDL, who have embedded dominant electro sounds to the song. Now, Hard bounce might be a new name to some of those reading this review. Popularized by Deorro since last year, this genre is a more “paced-up” version of typical Melbourne Bounce. However, the change of tempo does the trick, as it adds a distinct intensity to the usual offbeat bass groove. It is rapidly gathering attention in festivals and clubs because of its hulking nature.

Coming back to the track, it starts energetically with the offbeat bass, and as expected, with a fast pace. Another screeching rough synth joins the scene as furthermore, percussions give a nice swing to the intro. Finally, the breakdown fades in, introducing a rather catchy and pleasant melody, played out by synths having a more “digital” and “dreamy” tone to it. These buzzing synths fade out gradually as the riser materializes, and along with it a pre-drop vocal shout iterates, the drop kicks in with appreciable adrenaline and stamina. Transitioning, the drop presents the usual Melbourne bounce drop, lead by a distorted and rushing electro synth. The melody played out follows notes playing out in raciness, which feels slightly static but nonetheless does its job adeptly.

Summing up in a few words, “Sonar” boasts of prowess and dynamism, but the repetition of some ingredients in this track brings in a generic tone. Nevertheless, a dominant and energetic work from these proficient artists!
