Blasterjaxx – 1 Second

80/100

The Dutch duo once again took the big room quality to another level. “1 Second” is the latest, delicious & hypnotic production from Blasterjaxx, released on their label Maxximize.

In this release we can find typical Blasterjaxx elements, together with a couple of surprises. Our favourite introduction is the vocal, an exquisite vocoded voice that sounds fresh and catchy despite the clear distortion. The simple lyrics are emotional, and for careful listeners, “1 Second” is actually a “romantic song”.

Sure, we are talking of big room, a genre where the festival vibes are maxximized (low-quality joke), but that was our impression. “1 Second” however gives more space to the melody and the vocal than usual Blasterjaxx tunes.

The drop is the key. The bassline is unpredictably bouncy, with an acid/glitched stable noise in the background. That particular element has been added for “fitting” in the sci-fi mood of the song (visible in the cover too). It sounds like a static white noise.

This creates a curious question: is “1 Second” a romantic song, or the theme is sci-fi? What a mystery!

The certain thing here is that we appreciate its dynamic scheme. It’s a classic festival song, less aggressive than usual, but more bouncy. We are talking about Blasterjaxx here, one of the most important big room artists around. For their standards, “1 Second” is an excellent tune, with the right amount of personality.

In particular, as said, the perfectly distorted vocal adds a touch of sentimentalism and catchiness. Which is gold, nowadays, in big room music.

Definitely approved.
