CODEX – Nova

October 1, 20202 min read

• Elegant sequence in the break’s transitional phase
• Standard drop structure, considering Tranceroom’s boundaries
• Potentialities found in this underrated gem

Outrave Recordings is a smaller and independent imprint which has already impressed me Psy-Trance release by Chainix some weeks ago. It’s always a pleasure to discover the hidden gems that up and coming labels are offering, and today I am all caught by “Nova“. Created by the Swedish duo CODEX, this Tranceroom banger delighted me with its energetic attitude.

Despite having a few releases in their discography, I am already digging the style CODEX have to offer. In particular, “Gold Walls” in BLVCKBØX deserves mention of its own for its intriguing aura. They lean more towards the aggressive tonality, and same can be said for “Nova” as well.

Much of this niche of productions are inspired from SaberZ’s trademarks, as it often happens. But there is a peculiar job present in the breakdown, resulting in a melody that sounds refreshing enough for ears which has listened various other works of this type. The drop, the most significant component, hits relentlessly using a complex mechanism that plays in the stability between exaggerated innovation. Standard schematic, introducing creativity in the breakdown, where elegant strings and a massive lead do a tango together, in a splendid thirty-second sequence. The vocal loop in the build-up continues with the atmosphere and embeds a “dreamy” vibe to the blend, a detail I particularly appreciated among the vicious mentality kept by this track.

“Nova” lingers in the safe-zone section of the Tranceroom sector, if there is one, with further interesting hints of trademarks that are amusing to listen. CODEX may have to risk more to stand-out in such an underground part of Dance music, but the potential is there and it is limitless!
