With psy-trance dominating the EDM scene this year, we have got some impressive tracks! A prime example can be “Chakra” from W&W and Vini Vici, which we reviewed a few weeks ago. We have another imposing tune, crafted by the well-known Australian producer Will Sparks and Ben Nicky, from UK.
Both the artists have a very distinctive style in music. Will Sparks has released notable hits in Spinnin and Armada, and his productions have a unique bounce and groove style. Ben Nicky, on another hand, is a Trance artist that I really love. “Pirate” starts sailing with a rapid pace of 138 bpm, having an offbeat bass to support the groove. The intro doesn’t last much longer and swings right into the interesting breakdown.
“Pirates” is not exactly what I was expecting: it’s more exotic, creative, and ethnic. “Pirates” starts sailing with a rapid pace of 138 bpm, having an offbeat bass to support the groove. The intro doesn’t last much longer and swings right into the interesting breakdown.
The breakdown justified the title. With violins coming in, intensifying the atmosphere at once. The violins play out a pirate-themed melody, which felt a bit familiar (similar to Hanz Zimmer’s one), but still emotional. Another flute joins in, with some vocal chops and a grand piano in the backdrop. The calm and sentimental mood of the tracks vanishes right away as the synth comes in with the snare riser, and displaying a classic psy transition from breakdown to drop. This progression definitely helps the drop impact with the right vivacity.
In all, while listening to the track I could make out signature styles of both the artists involved, which actually makes it even better. This collaboration definitely was a pretty successful one, without any doubt!
