Will Sparks Feat. Gloria Kim – Take Me

To eradicate any misunderstanding, I wanna say now that I love what Will Sparks produces. And this track isn’t an exception but there are some problems in “Take Me” that annoy me a bit.

The intro isn’t that long, but it’s very plain and it’s way too similar to ‘Militant‘ with Tyron Hapi and Feral IS Kinky. And also, it is too different from the breakdown which is very sweet.

But let’s talk about something more interesting: the breakdown. It has such a beautiful melody, definitely, but being honest, it clearly sounds a classic typical EDM melody.

At least, this melody gives a special feeling to the track. However, this is Gloria Kim’s voice that makes everything during that part in my opinion.

It’s only in the second part of the breakdown that the interesting things start. First, Will Sparks used the vocal and turned it into wonderful vocal chops to add one layer to the track. And it’s from that moment that the melody becomes more and more sophisticated. The simplicity of the melody is broken and the alternation between the vocal chop and the vocal itself is very clever.

Second, it prepares for the break where we can finally start to hear some Bounce elements, with the snare drums and everything. The first classic melodic lead has been replaced by the more bouncy lead we could hear during the second part of the breakdown, and it’s a good thing.

Then the first drop… Well, it’s hard to be objective for it because I love it. But let’s try to be honest, the structure of it is generic, just as the majority of the Melbourne Bounce tracks. The thing that makes me love it is the vocal chops style though, which isn’t the same as previously. And in particular in the second part of the drop, where there are 3 different pitches of vocal chops (2 of them are pretty similar though).

Afterwards, there’s the second drop introduced by a very short bridge. This type of structure has been already heard in ‘Monsta‘, another track from Will Sparks. In this part, the pace of the kick changes a bit and there remains only 1 vocal chop, but at least it’s more unique.

For the build-up, nothing is really different from the breakdown, so I won’t say more about it.

And for the third drop, I’ve been surprised about one thing. The vocal chops are the same than in the first drop, but there’s a violin synth that appears and I find it truly amazing. I didn’t expect that, and I think it adds something magical to this, it’s what lacked here.
Because I’ve rarely heard violin synths in a Melbourne Bounce track.

The outro is better than the intro, as it’s less plain but it’s a bit weird though. It is kinda aggressive and it keeps nearly nothing from the third drop. Only some background effects maybe.

In a nutshell, I recommend you to hear “Take Me”! There are highs and lows but Will Sparks succeeded in making something energetic and sweet at the same time.
