TWIIG: Passion, Hard Work, Creativity… All Together.

September 2, 20177 min read

It was more than three years ago. April 2014.
I was surfing the web, listening to some new music, and I found those guys.
TWIIG was their names, it was a Croatian duo, pretty unknown at that moment.

They just had released a bootleg of “Gravity”, a Blasterjaxx release, and a lot of people was appreciating it. Big Room was trending in this period, and Marko & Deni were ready to enter into the scene. That bootleg didn’t impress me very much, it was normal (even if that break remains incredible after so much time), but I decided to start following them, they were promising.

One of the best choices in my musical life.

During the following years, I’ve seen every TWIIG achievement, heard each one of their tunes, and I slowly started to love their energetic big room styleThey are really similar to W&W (which are their inspiration, obviously), for creativity, trance influence in their sounds and melodic style… But with something more. Humbleness, passion and an unreal dynamism.

I always try to present you artists with a real love for EDM, and TWIIG definitively is on the top of my list. Their geniality, their availability with fans, their enthusiasm… They are two amazing persons.

I’m sure that their music can explain better why I consider TWIIG two of the most interesting producers out there. During the years I felt in love with a lot of their releases, but my favorites are three in particular.

1. The “Cheap Thrills” bootleg with TULE

Simply hypnotic and super fresh. Even if it’s completely different from TWIIG style, that’s an example of the duo’s creativity. I still listen to it every week, spectacular.

2. W.A.R. with Audiokiller

That’s an old one. Even if the Audiokiller style is dominant, the melody, the energy of the song, the unique mood of the break makes “W.A.R.” one the most interesting big room tracks of the history. A unique experience, and probably the most intense TWIIG production ever.

3. Hero

Actually, being honest, I’m not a super fan of “Hero”… But this track symbolizes a special moment for TWIIG: their first release on Mainstage, the label of guess who? W&W, their inspirational artists!
I remember the happiness in my heart when I discovered that and seeing that those guys made it, they achieved their dream. It was a beautiful moment for me (and for them)!

I had the honor to talk with TWIIG too, and I hope you will enjoy this quick interview!

1. What’s the meaning of your stage name “TWIIG”?

TWIIG is a name that goes from waaay before. It’s a name one of the members used when he played video games actually and the name itself has no meaning, it sounded cool and it wasn’t used by anyone so we went with it!

2. Let’s talk about the beginning of your career. How and why did you start producing? Have you been inspired by a certain artist?

We both love music since forever and with electronic music, we fell in love as soon as we stepped into a club for the first time. Since then, when we discovered that it was actually possible to create music from home and that you don’t need a studio or some special equipment to create it. We just had to give it a try and so we just kept on playing music, making music and enjoying it. That’s what lead us to where we are now! Yes, we have been inspired by many many artists from all kinds of music styles but if we had to pick one which boosted us the most and helped us more than any, it would definitely be our brothers W&W!

3. What’s your most important production?

Tarantella definitely. We actually had the idea for the song in 2015 but without the PSY beat it was just a normal bigroom song so we never finished it. In 2017 when PSY got hype, we randomly tried it with a PSY beat, loved it and had to finish and try to release it! The fact that Hardwell played it at Ultra Europe closing set, which is in our homecountry, Croatia, is insane to us! Other than that the song is regularly played in sets from Hardwell, W&W, KSHMR, Alan Walker, Timmy Trumpet, KURA and many other DJs.. thats the biggest support we got so far and its just insane to us and we are super thankful!

4. What are your plans for the future? Have you got some surprises? Would you like to send a message?

The plans with us are always simple, make music and release music when we believe its good enough! Do we have any surprises, well we hope that people will be surprised, in a good way, when they hear whatever it is that we have coming up next haha! And yes, ofc, that they are absolute legends for being honest and supportive towards us, that we fkn love them and hope that we get to see them and party with them one day! <3

5. What’s your favorite track at the moment?

More Than You Know by Axwell Ingrosso!! It’s a 100 by us, it’s our favorite track of the summer, we listen to it every day and we just LOVE IT!

Thanks to Marko & Deni for their time!
