Ambivalent about the new Revealed Progressive EP Vol. 2

July 15, 20192 min read

I followed the story of the second volume of the “Progressive EP” by Revealed Recordings attentively. I’m a massive fan of the genre, and since I missed the chance of speaking about the first one, I couldn’t make the same mistake again.

There is talent here. However, the big problem with those “debuts” on the main label is that few people dare to risk the chance with new ideas (the titles inclusive). Let’s begin with my classification.

Gravity – 83

Blackcode and Feerty killed it! A sweet vocal by Marina Lin (quite a cliché nowadays, I’ll add), accompanies a lead that gave me that “Reload” feeling, despite being quite different from the legendary hit. The bassline is so on point, energetic with a pinch of delicate vibes. It’s a robust and highly enjoyable progressive concept, which still lacks that unique twist, but it’s not a rarity with that genre.

I Can Tell – 82

Domeno announced his return to Revealed again with a solid production. His collab with his loyal coproducer Karl Sylver and the excellent vocalist Garrett Raff gave me tons of good vibes. The drop has an explosive melody; I wasn’t prepared for the dynamic entrance! The background, unfortunately, didn’t entirely convince me, I think it slightly kills the rhythm and leads to a loss of stamina with an excessive amount of percussions.

Let Me Go – 65

I enjoyed the two previously described tracks (despite the lack of uniqueness) while I had mixed feelings towards the next two. YARO and NANNO (with I Am Karate) did a regular job, leaving me with a generic sensation. The melody didn’t stick in my head at all; the only detail that really impressed me was the vocal and its unpredictable use in the drop.

Take Me Back – 51

Even worse, Wasback and Deakin XD flopped hard here. This track was an annoying experience, because there is a powerful Wasback bassline, that heavily clashes with a static melody that doesn’t go anywhere. Super dispersive, challenging to follow, almost dull. I didn’t understand what was going on during the creation of “Take Me Back”.
