HIDDN feat. Julia Ross – Carbon Monoxide

84/100

Today we are proud to present an impressive chillstep track, “Carbon Monoxide”. I must say that I may have got one of most interesting tune in Armada’s long history… It has been crafted with precision from a former mysterious producer HIDDN, alongside with luscious vocals from Julia Ross. “Carbon Monoxide” is definitely a must listen.

HIDDN is not new to Armada, he has already released some nice tracks there, but “Carbon Monoxide” is on another level of creativity and elegance!

This track seems to be inspired by the contemporary chillstep pop style… This style of music has been trending successfully and has got a lot of appreciation, including mine. Anyway, I said “seems”, because there are some innovative and original elements, showing that HIDDN is not following the trend, he’s shaping it.

This track starts with a lovely pluck synth playing in the backdrop… A kind of trap/future bass pluck I would say. Another thing which is really observable is the chord progression, fitting perfectly from the start.

The vocal comes in at the intro and I was really spellbound, to be honest. Julia Ross has done really a precise and proficient work of delivering the vocal, in a gorgeous manner… I would like to underline the lyrics, too: creative, original and emotional, I spent 10 minutes focusing on them.

Wow.

The drop indeed is unique and imposing. That’s when HIDDN released his creativity: we have 5 seconds of a vocal chopped melody, which plays over snare and snaps, and then all the elements from the breakdown come up and join together to give more harmony and pleasant touch to the drop. I was expecting some aggressive trap, since this particular technique is popular in the hard trap genre, but I was wrong. The overall atmosphere is a hybrid between trap, future bass and chillstep, with both aggressive and sweet elements.

In the end, “Carbon Monoxide” is a little piece of art. With an interesting drop, a lovely vocal, and an innovative mentality, HIDDN and Julia Ross dropped one of the most interesting tracks of the month!
