ZNZBR – Anywhere

April 15, 20232 min read

• Groovy, oldschool sound with a twist
• Unusual release, nonetheless appreciated
• Tech House influences in the drop

Although it has been some time since we ventured into interesting releases from our colleagues at Intensity Recordings, things are thriving in the label. Between a plethora of quality festival releases, “Anywhere” by ZNZBR caught my attention because of its particular sound, mashing together old-school House elements with a slight Tech House attitude with a sweet vocal.

The creator has some fascinating remixes (acknowledged by Dannic, Fedde Le Grand, Promise Land among others) and a worth-mentioning release on Groove Cartel Records, “Move Your Body“. Starting with Progressive House roots, the Tel Aviv-based creative is evolving towards an unconventional style.

It would be a complicated effort to categorize, although its nostalgic demeanor left a mark as the outcome has traits similar to Size Records’ releases with its groovy Progressive House tracks. There is also an experimental twist towards the end of the first drop, where the lead becomes glitchy and oriented for Tech House, featuring a wobbling bass to take the listener by surprise!

Candidly, the vocal loop enchants at first, adding a delicate touch to the composition, yet turns a bit dispersive in the longer run. However, after listening to “Anywhere” several times, I won’t deny the good experience. This provided a breath of fresh air associable with many underground releases from other genres.

“Anywhere” is a great pick for Intensity as it shares that festival-oriented vision, but at the same time presents a niche style with its own captivating twist. If you like to be surprised and looking for an unpredictable sound, this is would fit the suggestion!
