Wade – Get After It

June 22, 20222 min read

• Minimality throughout
• Heavier kickdrums and pizzicato leads
• Effective bassline presence

Tech House and I aren’t the best mates, so consider this review as a step out of my comfort zone and a great sign for Wade’s future. If the Spanish creator has managed to convince me to write some lines about a genre I rarely enjoy, there is a good reason why. Musical Freedom isn’t just promoting random names without seeing talent, too.

The said alias certainly nailed the melody in “Get After It”, as the bassline is a reminder of Fisher’s notorious festival weapon “Losing It”, which I hold as a baseline for all Tech-leaning tracks as they follow a similar progression. However, instead of being bored of the repetitive patterns, I was rather attracted to them. A minimal kick breaks the ice with personality, and a ‘pizzicato’ lead tunes in a lot of vibrancy to the production. There’s a vocal in the ensemble that remains in the background, which is hard to distinguish what it conveys but it sounds like a radio conversation. Despite such an elementary formulation, the enthusiastic and the frenetic attitude of kick and lead synths together makes the outcome effective with the particular setup I was looking forward to in this record.

Wade may have made his debut on Tiesto’s imprint now, but he has already accumulated several years of experience and support in the Tech House scene, with solid releases on Insomniac Records and Cr2 Records. I particularly enjoyed how he prefers heavier kicks, like in “No Logic”: there’s a drive and efficiency on the low-ends he synthesizes that changes my view towards this style of electronic music.

Concluding, I would suggest giving a try to “Get After It’, considering how it impressed me even with my limited view of this genre. It’s a fun-packed single that achieves much with few, carefully selected constituents, and I can see why such a major imprint would be interested in Wade’s creative output.
