• Away from Slap House trademark
• Organ bassline, Bass House influence
• Likeable to an extent vocal presence
Over twenty months have winded down since Imanbek’s largest record to date came out to the public, ultimately bagging a Grammy in the spring of last year. Fastly approaching the yearly mark of it happening, the breakout star in the dance scene still marks the 238th place on Spotify’s top 500 by remaining faithful to his audience-capturing sound. Yet, success necessitates diversification, and the attempt of it has arrived in the package of “Go Crazy”: a House single worth the attention? Let’s see.
Offsetting the trend of Slap House remixes with another particularly famous Eastern European producer pioneering it, the Kazakhstan based alias has tactfully remixed other top-tier acts such as Major Lazer and Dua Lipa while collaborating with Alan Walker (“Sweet Dreams”, talked about in Weekly Roundup III) this year to maintain and propel his momentum. Though his usual choice of rhythm remained unchanged mostly, the recent “Runaway” with Hollywood Undead is a far cry from the rattling synths: hovering over a trap/hip-hop/rock amalgam base.
Extending that mood, “Go Crazy” is reminiscent of UK garage thanks to the genre familiar organ layered low-end. FM synthesis’ presence sprinkles Bass House antics along the crude but flowing rap-flow from Lil Xan: a feature that left me with mixed feelings, yet appreciable to ends. There’s also KDDK, used to these sort of ambiance, having already shared two more synergies beforehand. Whether there is any sampling involved escapes me, since the melody rings a bell. Then again, it could be the simpler patterns in play that simultaneously inputs a predictable tone to the instrumental.
To give the gist of my thoughts, “Go Crazy” is a decent step away and change to Imanbek’s (and KDDK alike) schedule. Nonetheless, it would be a pleasure to see the award-winning act commit to other styles of electronic music, not minding whether it brings enough commercial traction to the table.
