• Unjustified brevity
• Warm vocal, relaxing yet shape-shifting scheme
• Stunning quality in the arrangement
Despite my personal antipathy towards the owner (read the related article, in case), I must admit that CYB3RPVNK is flourishing in the EDM game, with a stable and talented roster that keeps delivering interesting results. Regarding this cluster, Skytech and Waysons have continued piquing my interest, and today, I will be talking about the latter.
Waysons, during a particular period, kept amazing me with some quality work, especially with “Homeland” on Revealed. Then, after a hiatus of silence (maybe they were co-producing for our big friend?) they popped up with a new, unpredictable style and arrangements. Some may agree to disagree, but it was either a hit or a miss from them now on.
As the label’s name suggests, the sci-fi influences are present in many of the “underground” releases, cover included. “New World” takes inspiration from Eric Prydz and Old-School Progressive House, blending it with a signature CYB3RPVNK glitchy atmosphere. I liked how Waysons arranged and composed their creation, meticulously crafted… I must say that this was a necessity, with this kind of EDM. Every detail must function to impress.
The vocal is sweet, warm, familiar. I recognized the unmistakable Waysons’ tone in it. A relaxing buildup brings us to a drop that has a slight Brazilian bass influence, while keeping the Prog-vibes in an excellent way. The melody plays around in a surprising schematic, moulding into a new figure wherever necessary.
However, I heavily disliked the choice of making “New World” ten seconds shy of a proper three minutes. Sure, Spotify revenues are essential dividends of this industry, but this is an apt example of an appealing song that is clearly too short… Suddenly finishing, leaving me with nothing short of a “rushed” and premature sensation in the end.
So, “New World” is definitely an intriguing experiment, which makes the technical aspect and the melodic unpredictability their points of strength… Its ridiculous length ruined my overall experience, some sections are a bit dispersive, but we are in front of professionals. This is undebatable.
