Highlights of the First Half of 2021

June 5, 20213 min read

We’re already getting into the sixth month of the year, and thus ready to look forward for the next fifty percent of the year left. What are some observations that are worth noting about the last hundred and eighty-two something days? Here are collective two cents about it from the team members of our blog:

@_miiguel74: Hey everyone! Last months were loaded to the brim with interesting discographies that deserve an honorable mention. New albums from various artists started showing up, including heavyweights like Porter Robinson (“Nurture”), Trampa (“Disrespect”) or KSHMR (“Harmonica Andromeda”) to name a few. Apart from that, Rave Culture did a fantastic work publishing a lot of quality heaters. Talking of rave, parties without restriction have also begun sporadically. In Spain and rest of Europe, there were experimental concerts and DJ performances held to see if they are safe to continue with, and the results were greatly satisfactory. This serves as a huge step forward in the festival and other live events industry.

And who can forget the infamous NFTs? It is probably going to be even more heavily discussed in the coming few months with large influx of musicians trying to sell their artworks/production to the highest bidders.

@mutt.0: There is not much to say about the last few months, honestly it was far better than the previous year, with people starting to party and artists getting even more sincere than ever in putting more efforts into their tracks. There are tons of albums to listen as well, coming from big-timers such as Porter Robinson and KSHMR. Surprisingly, most releases these days are stepping up in their quality level, especially from the newer names. On the other hands, we talked about the NFT trend, and Slap House remakes seem to be slowing down in number, at least for the time being.

@edmrevnik: The Dance music scene is seeing a ton of development that is fascinating to witness. With some parts of the globe finally hosting events, especially the American industry coming back to its legs, there are more positive changes awaiting in the horizon. Mainstream dance music has been on an “on and off” relationship with me, as nowadays my listening preference mostly seem to indulge with underground spectrum of House and Techno, and the plethora of gems that get released under the radar. I do second @mutt.0’s speculation with production level getting set to higher standards, as you might have noticed the dearth of negative reviews lately. Something reassuring!

Alongside these, things like AI virtual DJs, NFTs, lossless audio streaming options and more have onset inevitable changes in the rapidly progressing scene, and perhaps will have greater impact in the coming few years.
