XAVAGE & Jon Casey – Make It Clap

December 2, 20203 min read

• Intense classic drops full of 808s and hi-hats
• Unexpected mystical atmosphere
• Aggressive and surprisingly well-crafted hip-hop vibes

Elysian has sought to showcase more quality tunes! The Hard Trap label has presented the first-ever collaboration between the American producer XAVAGE and South African beatmaker Jon Casey. In this get-together, presence of a beatmaker already guarantees success for a Trap song, perhaps one with bodacious 808s? Your assumption isn’t wrong here, and let us see why.

The balance struck between a beat and a production in this particular case is impressive, for if a rap vocal was to be added in this composition, results would have been equally stunning. Elysian’s “quality over quantity” motif is still upheld and “Make It Clap” reiterates this. Despite its somewhat generic title, this tune is laden with interesting variations that pleases expectations, equipped with a short vocal and an instrumental which flows with constant hits of distorted bass shots (808s) and shuffling hi-hats (all the necessary ingredients for a typical Hip-Hop beat, in short).

Adding to this blueprint is a furious drop that takes over a grand build-up that along with the vocal sample, turns out as the show-stealing segment of the tune. This elevation alone is a party kick-starter (amusingly enough I had some recollection of certain Tik Tok videos while hearing it). Skipping forward to the drop, the vicious performance by the brutal synths are clearly inspired by the ones usually heard in this genre, and the bassline is near divine when combined in this delightful experience!
A new voice emerges among all this, bearing the pitched-up tone of minion from “Despicable Me”, and honestly I found it pretty cool, giving a blow of fresh air. (Special mention to the censorship sound in the drop, giving a “rude” feeling to this portion).

In a summary, give this a try. This fabulous tune may go under your radar but cannot be missed. My friends (despite their first preference not being EDM) loved this one and I was surprised, so there is a great chance of being enjoyed by casual listeners. After all this, Elysian is an imprint that has drawn my admiration, here’s hoping they have new releases with upcoming talents. Great work from XAVAGE & Jon Casey as well!
