When it comes to the most elegant hosted scams in music industry, none can ever trump or second the deceitful Fyre Festival scam. It resurfaced again previous year after multiple documentaries on Hulu and Netflix were unveiled, elaborating on the “event that never happened” and the brainchild behind it: Billy McFarland. After the barrage of disturbing truths and entertaining memes following this, it is again a hot topic. Apparently, a new podcast titled “Dumpster Fyre” has been launched by the convicted US felon, where he will be interviewed and discussing his ways of making amendments.
If you don’t happen to know about the Fyre Festival travesty, we highly recommend to watch the films on it. In a sum-up, a luxurious music festival was proposed together by Billy McFarland and rapper Ja Rule in 2016. It snowballed into an avalanche of hype and gained huge momentum. Obtaining incredible support from major social media influencers, many excited people were beguiled to attend this “lifetime of an experience”. What followed was nothing short of a disaster, with thousands being the victim of this con, concluding with major lawsuits filed against the perpetrators and CEO of Fyre media pleading guilty and being jailed for over a six-year time period.
In a rather apologetic re-entrée of a début episode, the twenty-eight year old accepts his shortcomings, claiming “What I did was completely wrong and stupid”, and hopes to “build trust” by working with “complete transparency”. This podcast initiative has been started to remunerate some of the whopping 26 million USD revenue, the amount defrauded from the investors involved. Additionally, he is penning a self-published memoir named “Promythus: The God of Fyre”, intended to clarify the multiple fraudulent acts he committed.
